GenBank nos.
Due to delays in data processing at GenBank, some accession numbers may lead to unreleased (pending) pages.
These pages will eventually be made live, so try again later.
Olive text indicates a specimen that has not been
thoroughly examined (for example, for microscopic details) and marks other places in the text
where data is missing or uncertain.
The following material is based on original research by the authors of this page.
RET: [40/2/2] (9.5-) 9.9 - 13.0 (-16.6) × (5.5-) 6.0 - 7.0 μm, (L = 10.7 - 12.0 μm; L' = 11.4 μm; W = 6.3 - 6.5 μm; W' = 6.4 μm; Q = (1.20-) 1.51 - 2.21 (-2.38); Q = 1.65 - 1.89; Q' = 1.77), ??, smooth, thin-walled, inamyloid, ellipsoid to elongate to cylindric, with giant spores sometimes present in immature specimens; apiculus sublateral, cylindric; contents ??; color in deposit ??.
ecology
Solitary, apparently fruiting very infrequently. New York: In sandy soil of Pinus-Quercus barrens. Texas: In moist baygall plant community (a bog ecosystem of dense vegetation including Persea borbonia, Magnolia virginiana, Pinus echinata, and P. taeda).

discussion
Apparent morphological similarity to A.
levistriata and A.
sp-N50 suggest
to us that we should place both sp-57 and
sp-N50 in section Amanita.
Sporograph comparisons can be found on the techtab
of the taxon page for A. sp-N50.
With recent success in sequencing original material of
A.
levistriata, we have apparently found the
closest (yet) North American relative of the present
species.

Spore data for collections provisionally identified as: Amanita sp-57
Each spore data set is intended to comprise a set of measurements from a single specimen made by a single observer;
and explanations prepared for this site talk about specimen-observer pairs associated with each data set.
Combining more data into a single data set is non-optimal because it obscures observer differences
(which may be valuable for instructional purposes, for example) and may obscure instances in which
a single collection inadvertently contains a mixture of taxa.
